South Lyon High School
Wayne Memorial High School
The Wayne Memorial boys cross country team got off to great start to the dual meet season 2-0 by winning both races in the double dual against South Lyon and Garden City on Wayneâs home course. We defeated South Lyon 27-30 and Garden City 16-47. 3 boys ran overall PRs, 6 boys ran course PRs. Senior John Gaton and Junior Jonathan Boland led the Zebras with a 1-2 finish in the race both recording times of 18:11. Sophomore Trent Griffith finished in 4th place with a time of 18:59. Rounding out the scoring for Wayne was senior Austin Bazan in 8th (20:06), senior Cody Macuga in 14th, senior Andrew Winters (22:05) in 18th and freshman Michael Rivera in 19th (22:20).
Others competing yesterday were sophomore Juan Rivera in 20th (20:32), freshman Collin Powers in 21st (20:47), junior Kolby Hood in 37th (25:49), sophomore Josh Lees in 43rd (28:33), sophomore Angel Lopez in 45th (32:31), and junior Todd Wagner in 46th (35:40)
We lost our number 1, 3, 6, 7, and 8 runners from last years team. We have a young team this year, but with their drive and work ethic, times will continue to improve. To run course PRs on our home course this early in the season is a great sign that the team put in the work over the summer.
We have only ran on the two slowest courses in the area so times will definitely improve.. We have several young runners that are showing great potential and will be competing for the Varsity spots later in the season.
