Meet Recap

The Wayne Memorial Cross Country Boys team were in action Wednesday in a double dual against South Lyon and Garden City. In the heat and humidity and battling Wayne’s home course muddy hills, Wayne Memorial beat Garden City 15 to 49 and lost a close race 28 to 29. Senior Blake Barber won the race with a time of 18:22.06, Junior John Gaton missed 2nd place by 2 seconds, finishing in 3rd in 18:31. Junior Jakob Khalaf ran a 56 second personal record by running 18:55. Freshman Trent Griffith finished as Wayne’s fourth man in 8th place with a time of 20:14 and Sophomore Jonathan Boland wrapped up the top 5 in 21:19. The top 7 were rounded out with Seniors Jamie Carranza in 21:59 and Tyler Westfall in 22:28.

I was very proud of the way we ran today. The heat and humidity were bad enough, but the rain prior to the race made the hills on the back part of the course treacherous. Despite everything 3 boys ran their overall PRs and running on faster courses are going to show how well the boys are running.

Others Zebra runners competing in the race were as follows:
Andrew Winters – 22:29
Sagib Garcia – 24:13
Chris Fletcher – 24:16
Juan Rivera – 24:46 (1 second overall PR)
Cody Macuga – 25:01
Austin Bazan – 26:23
Kolby Hood – 26:32
Luis Rivera – 27:32 (1 minute 24 second overall PR)

Meet Recap

The Zebras end the dual meet season with a 70-58 victory over the Plymouth Wildcats. The win puts the Zebras at 2-3, which is the best record since joining the KLAA.

The win was fueled by winning all relays and sprint events. The Long Jump was not contested because of the conditions, but Reggie Micheaux won both Shot and Disc (3rd place finish in Shot by Quentin Williams).

Although they didn’t win the events, Blake Barber and Jon Rivera’s PR second place finishes in the 3200 & 1600 respectively were vital in point totals.
