Meet Recap

The Wayne Memorial Boys Cross Country team raced to a 12th place finish out of 30 teams on Saturday at the Wayne County Championships with 381 points. 8 boys ran either run an overall Personal Record or a course Personal Record.

Senior, John Gaton finished 21st and was named 3rd team All-County by running a Personal Record time of 16:45. Junior, Jonathan Boland finished 45th with a time of 17:17, while sophomore Trent Griffith finished 71st with a season best time of 17:54. The breakout performance of the meet was senior Austin Bazan with an 86th place finish breaking his previous personal record by 51 seconds with a time of 18:09 becoming the 20th fastest senior since 1991. Rounding out the scoring for Wayne were seniors Cody Macuga and Andrew Winters and freshman, Collin Powers.

In the Junior Varsity Race, freshmen Michael Rivera and Ke’Waun Stone along with sophomore Juan Rivera led the Zebras to a 14th place finish (451 points) with times of 20:33, 20:41 and 20:48 respectively. Both Riveras ran course personal records while Stone ran an overall personal record moving up to #17 on the All-Time Freshmen List. Junior, Kolby Hood (23:50) finished as Wayne’s 4th runner. Junior Dipankar Roy (27:22), freshman Emmanuel Salazar (28:51) and sophomore Angel Lopez (28:52) all ran overall Personal Records to round out the scoring.

The coaches are very pleased with the intensity this team shows in practice. As the season continues, we are expecting to see some huge improvements.
